I hate being sick

I didn't do many of the fun things I had planned last weekend because SL was very sick: bad cold and strep throat, too, as it turned out. We had to cancel our plans to go out with our friends on Saturday night because he was so sick.

I *did* take little M out as planned on Sunday, though we went to the mall instead of the museum. She was a little pouty because her foster parents told me some things about her recent behavior that she did not want me to know. She played in the mall's play area, and I took digital photos of her; she enjoyed that. I also bought her a Cinnabon, which made her very happy.

I missed a day and a half of work myself this week because SL gave me his cold! I am finally feeling mostly back to normal, though still a little cough/congestion. I've spent most of the day so far getting caught up on the things I missed while I was out.

I was totally off the wagon with my eating Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday! Monday I actually stopped on my trip home from my friend's and bought a hot fudge sundae. Because I was home Tues & Wed, I snacked a lot (and used being sick as an excuse). I am mostly back on track today, but we had yet another potluck at work today. . . at least this one offered some low fat options.

I also haven't exercised since Friday (too much difficulty breathing with the congestion). I won't be going tonight either because I have book club. (sigh)

Back on track tomorrow.

Friday the 13th

Hi ho. TGIF! Friday the 13th always creeps me out a little because when I was a child, my mother crashed on a motorcycle she was test driving on a Friday the 13th. To my recollection, nothing else bad has happened to me on a Friday the 13th since, but I still think something might.

I am working my way back to jogging this week. I started the Couch to 5K Training Program that I did back in late 2003 when I used to jog regularly (I actually ran in a 5K race in April 2004). My dog Sebastian has been overjoyed because he has been out on the trail either walking or jogging every evening this week. I plan to go again today after work. I actually enjoy exercise.

On the eating front, I haven't had so great a day. I attended a large party at lunch with lots of other people from my office. In addition to eating chips and a fattier sandwich than I would usually eat, I also had a piece of chocolate cake with frosting. I am following the Weight Watchers Points program. When I counted up the "damage," I have already exceeded my maximum points for today. . . and it's only 1:30 PM. (Sigh) And I know we are having dinner with SL's parents tonight, too. . . though I also know that his mom is preparing a Weight Watchers recipe, so perhaps I won't have to use up too many of my weekly flex points.

I have some fun things planned for the weekend. Saturday morning I am going hiking with Sebastian and my friend K and her dog. Saturday night we will probably go play Texas Hold 'em with a group of friends. And Sunday afternoon I will be taking M, the child for whom I am a court appointed advocate (CASA), on an outing. Provided the weather is nice, I think I will take M to a local outdoor museum. It's very cool because they have live animals as well as a variety of exhibits.

Back to work!

Introduction

I keep reading various other people's blogs. I finally decided that none of their lives were more interesting than mine. . . so if I enjoy reading about their lives, maybe someone would enjoy reading about mine. Well, we'll see.

A little bit about me. . . I live in a medium-sized city in the American Southwest. I live in a 2-bedroom townhome with my boyfriend SL, his cat, and my wonderful 4-year-old Golden Retriever. I am a prosecutor, so I have a pretty interesting job. . . you couldn't make up some of the stories I read in case files: a Hollywood script writer could have a field day!

How do I spend my free time? I volunteer my time through the juvenile courts. I enjoy hiking, reading, and going to movies. And I am currently trying to lose weight for the umpteenth time after the excesses of the holiday season and simultaneously trying to get in shape to hike the Grand Canyon in early April.

OK, I'm bored already. So enough for tonight.
